Under normal circumstances, a 1G ship can't take off from a size 8 or
greater world. What do people do in their campaigns to deal with this?
Niven postulated compressed air booster rockets in one of his
stories. Not as boosters but to avoid pouring heat into the
atmosphere. I think the story was flatlander. I did a little bit of
digging and figured that at just 1.2G, a Free Trader would be able to
get to a circular orbit of 120km from the surface of a size 8
world. From there 100 diameters isn't too difficult.

As a GM, if you would permit the players to over boost their drive by
20%, what penalty would you extract? I'm thinking that the time at
120% normal counts as double time towards this ship's annual or
something similar?
