In the original, sex of scion or /fraghta/ is irrelevant - but there
are definite biological reasons for that. Because the original colors
my perception of the role, I hadn't thought of the question of sex.

Selection of the person in the role would be done 'by the family', and
it's not necessarily a "hired" position - it could be filled by a
sworn retainer who is treated as family (including living with the
family, and being supported-in-toto by them), or it could be a more
senior family member who is not in the line of titular succession.

'Chaperone' and 'Duenna' have implications that are not present in the
original, but which admittedly might be appropriate in the human
version of the role, at least until the scion attains enough sense not
to try to get into THAT kind of trouble...
