 disaster scenarios ... which makes sense when
 you consider that such a beast is basically a

Those monster trucks used for strip-mining are also diesel-electrics & are also more mobile than locomotives.

BTW, how power does the gas-turbine in an M1 Abrams generate?

How about flying in a large cargo a/c?
