I think you have AC and DC reversed in part of that - you don't rectify DC

I'm not sure on diesel - yeah, they'd use it if available, but you're
still lugging around trainloads of fuel or lugging trainloads of
batteries. Yeah, diesel is more concentrated power storage by weight
and volume, but in this case solar would be cheaper

Dunno.

I can see the Darksiders using diesel though.
Or some kind of compressed volcanic gas system.
