As best I recall, it goes like this;
The short answer is 'yes' & has been documented in a number of Trav pubs. Altho while I AM sure about 'deep-site' meson guns, I'm not at all sure about meson screens. AFAIK, the earliest mention was in a TAS article published while the Fifth Frontier was 'current' in the official (GDW) Trav Timeline .
OTOH neither of the board games 'Fifth Frontier War' & 'Invasion Earth', published around the same time, explicitly included 'deep-site' meson guns.
For 'static' system defence 'FFW' had numbers of SDB sqds for system defence plus static 'Defense Battalions' for planetary defense.
Local tech levels figured in so it's possible that the 'DB' strengths factored in possible meson gun installations.
'Invasion Earth' which was the final battle of the 'Sol Rim War' & occurred about a century earlier, did specifically have counters that represented PD units which were described as 'ad hoc' organisations in which meson guns were mounted on grav sleds.

I'm thinking about Meson Guns as
described in High Guard and I'm
wondering:
If I can dig fusion tunnels in
planetoid, can I do the same inthe
crust of a planet?
Can I carve out enough space for: A
Factor T Meson Gun, A power
supply, fuel, a computer, and
living quarters big enough to fire
the gun? All of that and the
biggest possible Meson Screen.
This is obviously being designed as a planetary defense
emplacement.
Has this been discussed before on the list?
