As far as I know the Solomani have continued expanding to Rimward straight thru the Long Night up to the present.
I figure there must be some worlds out there that would be easy pickings.
Also, the Aslan did grab Glisten didn't they? Hi-Pop, HiTL.
And the Aslan had little love for the SolConfed.
Surely there must've been constant conflict 'tween the aslan & solomani along their border.
I do agree about the areas to 'trailing' but, in the end, I think it was just part of DGP's brief to "shake things up".
Injecting a large number of aslan into the 'Marches achieved that for sure!
And so they gained a nice, neat, & tidy sector with a whole lot more potential for excitement than before.

You mean
in the Rebellion Era?
Rebellion Sourcebook suggests that
ihatei (and their descendants) tended to be
disproportionately sent "over the rift" to Trojan
Reach. Upon hearing of upheavals in the 3I, in 1117 local
Fleet Dispatcher said, "What the hell, try your luck
over the Imperial border." Their success in squatting
on underpopulated Imperial worlds encouraged more
migrants. Formal Aslan fleets came later.
The other factor is population
density. I get the impression that the Aslan were more
concerned about open spaces than worlds per se. Even if
the Solomani government and fleets were weak, the spinward
sectors of the Confederation were more likely to be already
densely populated. No squatting here, you'd need to
launch a war of conquest. And weak though the
Confederation was compared to the Imperium (especially in
the early aftermath of the Rim War), it would still have
been much more powerful than any single clan, or conceivable
coalition of clans. So for that reason, generations of
ihatei had gone coreward, rimward, and spinward ... but not
trailing into the Solomani Sphere.
A better question would be: why
didn't more of them go trailing into Ustral, Uistilao
and beyond?

Then, of course, that raises the question of why all the
Aslan ihatei that later flooded the 3I weren't already
flooding the SolConfed?
