Actually there are a variety of ways to sabotage a ship that normal monitoring systems won’t necessarily catch: making a pressure relief valve that just doesn’t, for example, or substituting a carefully pre-sabotaged piece of high-pressure piping, or just sticking a bomb in the wrong place. If the ship is shut down in drydock at the time, even an AI won’t know about it.
And that’s not considering ways to sabotage the AI itself. “I’m sorry, Dave….”
