Well, I recall reading long
ago that motors in the wheels was to be
avoided because you want to minimize the
"unsprung weight" in the
car.
Something about riding better or being easier to control.

Back when I was into moto-cross the rule of thumb, for motorcycles anyway, was that one lb of unsprung weight = 3-5 lbs of sprung weight as far as handling was concerned...
