I thought I might have another crack at this, incorporating
some of the feedback. (including some of the not-blowing-up business :-) ).
What that in mind, can anyone suggest where I might find a canonical
(more-or-less) list of suitable materials?

So far the best sources I've found are the versions of FFS from both
TNE and MMT. There don't appear to be any contradictions between the
two sources, and there is a little more detail in the MMT version.
So I was planning on starting there. Any better suggestions?
