Very true.
I first read 'Tactics of Mistake' as a serial in 'Analog' back in the '70's when Ben Bova was the editor.
Unfortunately the serialization involved some abridgment (I guess that was SOP for just about all the sci-fi mags back then) & later on I read the book & discovered that some details that weren't critical to the book, but WERE important as background for GDickson's future history, had been omitted.
