Males pretty clearly need to be able to do math, if only to calculate weapon ranges, fields of fire, and figure the odds of an attack succeeding. Gender roles may indicate that supply and logistics and math are "women's work" but unless the males are notably dumber than the females, they still are capable of doing some math, and they still *do* math, even if gender roles indiciate they aren't going to sit down with a calculator/spreadsheet/computer/whatever and do the calculations themselves. Aslan wouldn't *hire* a male to do clerical work, or run your logistics operations, but the males still have to be able to *understand* it. If half your grav tanks are down for maintenance, you have to be aware of that, and the ins and outs of getting them fixed, even if you're not a mechanic.
