And this is a problem because?

Remember one of the selling points of the proposed laser launch
systems back in the 70s(?) was that the individual lasers whose beams
would be combined into the launching beam could double as
anti-missile defenses.

These sorts of things are technologies that the Imperium and
surrounding olities seem to have missed/skipped.

As such, they could be a *real* shock to folks trying to move in on a
"lower tech" world.
