Or maybe they did given that they passed through (and were shown mining asteroids) numerous systems and simply took what they needed along the way? They had, IIRC, at least one ship that was capable of refining metal (as well as two fuel refining ships). I strongly suggest the book, "The Science Of Battlestar Galactica" by Patrick Di Justo and Dr. Kevin Grazier (JPL, Cassini-Huygens, Viking, as well as working for RAND, among other things). I'll take their word that they could do what they showed in the show, based on the science that Grazier advised them on. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ That's right, &, in addition, the Galactica was designed & built long before the Cylons attacked. It was never intended to be the flagship of a refugee fleet. However, if the supply of ammo got too low, rationing could occur but would also spur them into looking for some asteroids as a top priority.. ===================================================================================================
