But, again, at high enough velocity (16 inch gauss cannon?) the thing is going to become a plasma penetrator pretty quickly after impact.

In space combat at ranges predicated in traveller, I'd assume that the projectiles need some sort of terminal guidance.

But then again I think that horse is already dead - short ranged anti-missile BB guns as I recall.

IMTU lasers are very short ranged anti-missile weapons until TTL 14 or so, when gamma ray lasers become viable.

Thus any ship to ship laser is already TTL 14.
