And it's something that that changed significantly from CT to MT, as I recall.

Didn't MT introduce the 'Mdrive thruster plate'  handwace?

While, at least in the ship plans, CT appeared to me to have what looked like Mdrives that some sort nozzle arrangement that, imo, implied some sort of exhaust.

Don't recall if there was anything more specific in CT, but I do recall that when the thruster 'plate' appeared in MT it did generate quite a bit of 'buzz', both positive & negative.
