What's potentially _really_ nasty is if the polity in question doesn't have its own money, and declares as legal tender _several_ independently-valued reserve or neighbor currencies - this happened in Zimbabwe from 2009 to 2015 as a result of uncontrollable hyperinflation of the Zimbabwean dollar; during the above period, legal tender in Zimbabwe were USD, UKP, EUR, INR, AUD, CNY, JPY, BWP, and ZAR. And there was nothing that said that change had to be made/given in the currency used for payment; pay in USD and you could have received in change a handful of coins and bills of mixed INR, BWP, and CNY... ®Traveller is a registered trademark of Mongoose Publishing, 1977-2024.
