£sd isn't all that bad, unless you specifically choose to introduce some of
the other named amounts that have at various times appeared in the system,
like crowns (5s) and half-crowns (2/6), guineas (21s), farthings (4 = 1d),
marks (13/4), nobles (6/8), florins (2s), groats (4d), and so on.

What's potentially _really_ nasty is if the polity in question doesn't have
its own money, and declares as legal tender _several_ independently-valued
reserve or neighbor currencies - this happened in Zimbabwe from 2009 to
2015 as a result of uncontrollable hyperinflation of the Zimbabwean dollar;
during the above period, legal tender in Zimbabwe were USD, UKP, EUR, INR,
AUD, CNY, JPY, BWP, and ZAR. And there was nothing that said that change
had to be made/given in the currency used for payment; pay in USD and you
could have received in change a handful of coins and bills of mixed INR,
BWP, and CNY...
