Yes, but that's why I mentioned Russia. You know, endless steppe & all that.
I imagine that there was also lots of terrain in Algeria that could be handled easily.

And, don't forget that the soviets/russians still use wheeled APC's extensively.
At one time, only the Soviet Tank Divs had all vehicles tracked while the MechRifle Divs mostly used wheeled APC's.
Not sure about the current situation in the former USSR though.

Wheeled vehicles also don't require as much maintenance support as tracked ones.

Another article I read mentioned how the germans tried to use the soviet armor they captured.
It was stated that their plans (as I recall, an SS Panzer Div had a battalion of captured T-34's attached to it just before Zitadelle) to use all that captured armor always soon ran afoul of the always high maintenance requirements of tracked vehicles.
The captured tanks were very quickly 'used up'.
I suspect though that that batt of captured T-34's must've come in handy in the first few days of fighting.
