Folks,

I found the first chapter of this story, "The Golden Rule", narrated by
NetNarrator on YouTube and then tracked the rest of it to Reddit and
finally to archiveofourown.com.  It starts off as what seems like a
pretty straight forward rescue mission to help a world pretty much
scorched by massive CMEs and solar flares that destroyed or destabilized
its ecosystem.  In subsequent chapters the backstory and even the reason
for the system's star freaking out is discovered as well as all the
political and interpersonal backstories being revealed.  It's character
driven and principally told from the first person POV, though sometimes
it's a bit difficult to determine who the focus character is and it
sometimes drops from first to third person and back again.

All that said...

It's good fiction that digs into realistic characters that you would
find on any Imperial warship or merchant ship without them being
supermen or heroic larger than life Mary Sues.   The tech is different
from standard Traveller, though not to the point where there aren't
similarities.  The aliens are well done (gotta admit, Trey is a personal
fave), unique where they need to be, and tend to have their own
outlooks.  Another nice thing is that the world building is well done,
somewhere between Hamilton's Reality Dysfunction, a dash of Expanse, a
bit of BSG 2003, and even a touch of cyberpunk.

All in all, after the first chapter I've been reading it and enjoying
the story.  A nice feature that  Archive of our Own offers is the
ability to download the entire story to one of the common formats for
off-line reading.
