In one of MTU, "booties" refers to the Imperial Marines (yes, the Royal
Marines' influence is still felt) while "starmen" (regardless of gender)
refers to the Imperial Navy. Never really got around to establishing
nicknames for the Black Sun Brotherhood (the Unified Armies of the Third
Imperium) or the Scouts.
In another MTU (the Advisoryverse), the Worshipful Guild of Master
Spacers and Starmen (a London livery company established before the
split from the canon timeline in 2125 AD) is the actual source of the
"starmen" reference.
