I started training in early 2001 & the third-party instructors were proudly displaying their 'Windows 2000 SysAdmin' certificates. When we got to the part about 'how to build a network' the very first thing that came to my mind was, "Plan in advance? NO WAY! Haven't you guys ever heard of 'accelerated implementation'? That means you just throw everything together, see what happens, & go from there!". Naturally, many problems ensued but, know what, from talking to various folks over the years since, it seems that almost everyone initially chose the 'accelerated ' option, & then regretted it later. Most times thou, & in the case of my employer, the 'higher-ups' that chose the 'accel' option had already moved on to greener pastures, leaving others to finish cleaning up the mess.
That is the modern corporate way.
