I can think of several issues that might account for this - most of which likely /wouldn't/ be issues for military usage, in the sense that "Dammit, we need the damn drop tanks; do what you have to". For civilian use, though, I think I pretty well summarize the issues in http://www.freelancetraveller.com/features/rules/tss/tss3.html - do I miss any glaring ones? -- Jeff Zeitlin, Editor Freelance Traveller ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ The canonical implementation of J6 Xboats was dependant upon the use of droptanks but info on that was, AFAIK, only present in the earliest TNS dispatches. There was a mention of an 'accident' involving droptanks where a ship, civilian I believe, was destroyed when attempting a jump using droptanks. I believe the program was then suspended & no further mention, that I'm aware of, was made of it. ====================================================================================
