Not really. I just don't think that all attacks have to be so massive as to cause catastrophic damage; I think that cumulative damage can be much more significant than you seem to. One hit that does insignificant damage is, well, insignificant. 300 attacks that do insignificant damage is rather more serious. And I would argue that a ship's laser is somewhat less insignificant than a machinegun. I'm reminded at this point of the scene in "A Bug's Life", where the lead grasshopper demonstrates that throwing one seed at another grasshopper doesn't hurt, but throwing thousands can kill. One torpedo caused relatively minor damage to the Musashi. Nineteen of them (plus 17 bombs) sank her. (And as a minor point, just because I'm a pedant, I think you probably meant Swordfish, not Gladiator. The Gloster Gladiator was strictly a fighter only.)
