In a lot of those yachts if you've got a heavy following sea you're in
deep trouble regardless, as those big flat sterns with large hatches in
them are not going to stand much of a beating before they start letting
in water, not to mention how hard it would be to maintain control with
seas smacking into such a huge transom.

I realise they're mostly fair weather vessels (the 'explorer' yachts
aside), and that with modern weather forecasting they should be able to
avoid being at sea in bad weather, but things go wrong and if you're
sailing 'early' or 'late' in the Med and something brews up fast you
could be in deep trouble.
