Howdy Alex,

The smell is a combination of the chemicals used in the Co2 scrubbers, O2 generators, cooking, lubricates for rotating machinery, 130 odd bodies, and sanitary tank odors being circulated for the time you are underway and submerged. Hence the nicknames of sewer pipe or pig boat sailor.
