I got this one. My ship (a destroyer) hit a submarine and spent 3 months in dry dock repairing the damage. During these 3 months we stripped the paint off everything and repainted. We did preventive maintenance on every system that was not part of the repairs. We replaced any component that we had marked for replacement when we got back home. We had training and training and training on procedures. We were in a foreign port so very few took leave.

If we had been in home port at the time then it would have included crew rotation and transfers, leave time. Remember US servicemen get 30 days leave a year and can accumulate a total of 60 days.

One of the recent videos I have watched from a yacht officer stated that the yacht had 2 crews and set rotations of 2 months on and 2 months off. And for the yacht overhauls would be off time for both crews. Many yachts do not pay for off time, some do. If they don’t pay off time, expect the crew to find different employment. Most ships have overhauls every 5 years, rather than the Traveller every year. But these overhauls are normally 6 month down times rather than the Traveller every year for 2 weeks.
