Absolutely. The Zor from Walter H. Hunt's "The Dark Wing" series. The
overall story was excellent, with good writing, fast paced when it
needed, but the crown jewel was the world building and specifically, the
alien race known as the Zor. It was one of the few times I was
impressed and motivated to reach out and contact the author with my
comments. If you can find it, it isn't on Kindle, get it. You won't be
disappointed.
The Zor are truly one of the most alien races I've seen, culturally,
since Niven and Pournelle's Moties.
