I’d have to agree on this one. Though this list seems to do better than one I’m on dedicated to Classic Computing, where some of the members actually read on classic systems. As a whole, email etiquette has gone out the window. Thread drift is a big one.

This one got me to thinking, both in terms of Sci-Fi TV shows, and my own life. I can think of examples of stumbling over problems of etiquette in Sci-Fi TV shows, but I can’t think of any specific examples of what you’re talking about. I very distinctly remember the briefings on etiquette, from when I was in the Navy, and we were escorting oil tankers through the Straights of Hormuz (at that time I was on a Frigate). Oddly enough, I don’t remember if we had such briefings after the first Gulf War, when I was their on an Aircraft Carrier. My guess is that we had them on the Carrier as well, and I didn’t pay attention having been there twice already.
I find myself wondering if such occurrences would be better accepted in older Sci-Fi than in new, as the pace of shows has changed over the years.
