A case could be made (and probably would be, by Vilani traditionalists -
but I repeat myself) that "the old system was working /just fine/, as it
had for thousands of years ... but no, you had to tinker, to experiment,
to try the 'New Way.'  And it /failed/, and that's how we got the Long
Night.  And that's why we don't change what /works/.  If we'd just stuck
with the old ways, none of this would have happened."

Which is bullshit, of course - the ZS was already starting to crack and
fail under its own weight and age before the Terrans ever showed up -
but to a certain sort, it makes a convenient excuse / scapegoat, a
"proof" of why "reckless" changes are always bad and good old Vilani
conservatism is the truth and the light.
