Actually, in _"The Number of the Beast--"_, Heinlein discusses this very
question (and uses the term 'ficton' [sic] as though it were a notional
elementary particle, plural undecided as to 'fictons' or 'ficta'). Get the
book and read it. Although the question does _not_ come up in _The Pursuit
of the Pankera_, get that one, too; they should be read "side-by-side", and
be aware that the first couple of dozen chapters are word-for-word
identical.
