They ignore the possibility of fast, *expensive* FTL radio.
Blish's Dirac radio wasn't too expensive and it was fast. In fact it
was instantaneous. But it also had the problem that anybody with a
Dirac radio got the message.
It also had a "fun" flaw. Every message received started with the
Dirac "bleep". This was a "loud" multifrequency signal "blip". Turns
out that with the right equipment you could "spread it out" into
every Dirac radio message *ever*.
