True, but that complicates archiving the list.

The list I run (for authors in a shared universe) does allow
attachments, and when had a few big ones. And we also have a dropbox
supplied by one of the folks on the list.

The list gets various items attached (drafts of stories, and other
things). The dropbox gets more permanent stuff, such as the monthly
archive files and the wiki. But also serves as another place to store
notes, drafts and the like where it's easier to get the latest
version.
