I had the pleasure of corresponding with Mr. Deitrick some years back.
He was happy to hear that I "got it" with regard to his use of heavily
stylized, deliberately /un/realistic techniques - vivid colors and
glossy highlights, bold linework, etc - like another favorite artist of
mine from that era, Ken Steacy.  It's a different and very distinctive
look, IMO.
