I recall a 'science fact' article (c. 1980) in Analog mag (they printed one factual article each month) where a prof at Stanford (I believe the article said he was the head of their AI lab) wrote that AI was going to be the 'first alien intelligence we would encounter & it would happen w/i 5 years! (well I guess he was a little off!)
Anyway, he went thru all the various 'semi-intelligent' creatures here on earth & some of the stuff was really fascinating. Turned out that the giant squid had the most 'alien' brain, in his opinion, but no one really had any idea if or how intelligent the creature was. Too hard to study, don't ya' know! I found the article to be extremely fascinating.
Anyway, if a computer is built to operate just the same as a human brain, could it be considered an 'alien' intelligence?
