In particular, the staterooms should be toward the aft/center of the ship, where it is possible for a sophont of average height to actually stand upright. Thinking about it, I shouldn't be surprised if the optimum arrangement turns out to be a set of curtained bunks around a common room (rather than separate rooms). It can’t be done. If you assume that the Type S is a flat triangle about 3m thick with sloping side pods holding the fuel, then the deck plans from S7:Traders and Gunboats work fine. The problem is trying to make it look like a scaled down star destroyer from Star Wars - the sloping roof just does not work and a J2 ship does not have enough fuel tank volume to fill the gaps, so all the interior space ends up with sloping floors and ceilings at the edges. Staterooms 4 and 5 on the S7 plans have definite headroom problems and the bridge only has full headroom in the centre aisle - the workstations have perhaps 6’, decreasing to 4’ at the outer edge. Both the avionics and the forward sensor positions make a Jeffries tube seem positively roomy. The deck plans in GURPS 5 are just prettier versions of S7. GURPS has the dimensions as 123’ x 78’ x 24’, S7 has 37.5m x 24m x 7.5m but the rear view picture in S7 has a width to height ratio of 7:1 (ie 3.5m tall, or 1 deck).
