http://web.archive.org/web/20140409063247/http://breakingdefense.com/2014/04/sleepless-in-singapore-lcs-is-undermanned-overworked-says-gao/ Issues with the new LCS Freedom class. Crew gets about 6 hours of sleep, instead of 8, while under power, due to high demand for maintenance vs number of crew available to perform that maintenance. Some of this is due to being first-ship-in-class, and finding out where all the engineering decisions that look OK on paper (or in the CAD system) don't really work in real life. OBTRAV: Navy characters get assigned to new ship for shakedown. Hilarity ensues. Characters get an opportunity to purchase a surplus Navy (or Scout, or Merchant) ship at what appears to be a a ridiculously low price. "It's a prototype, but we fixed all the bugs. Really!" Hilarity ensues. Dan -- "Any sufficiently advanced parody is indistinguishable from a genuine kook." -Alan Morgan
