In this case, the purpose was a bit more involved. The captor is a rogue robot and the captive is a robot tech; Medic On A Leash.

seems not so much "ingenious" as "insane".

That, too. The rogue robot is definitely unstable.

Although . . . there is nothing to say that the grenade in question is actually live. Perhaps the robot rendered it inert before tying up the prisoner. All that is necessary is that the prisoner BELIEVES the grenade to be live. :)
