Ooooh, I might just have to pinch that for a diversion for my Second Scions' Society players!

The Soc C secret version of that society travels around frontier subsectors causing "once in a lifetime" astronomical phenomena and then appearing as deities to the uncontacted TL0 civilization below. Internal challenges and competitions the club has includes trying to get the natives to believe the most outrageous claims about the nature of the universe, such as the world is borne on the back of a turtle. The club gallery back in the subsector capital contains numerous statues of "gods" that TL0/1 peoples have made of the members of the club.

and I really like this - although I reckon my lot are a bit to 'nice' to ever dream of doing something like this. Still, they could uncover that going on and feel they wanted to stop it...
