Thank you for providing the bit of information that someone else thought that "The Hunt for Red October" was a good source. I admit I forgot about the book, even though I've got a copy, and I watched the movie on DVD about a week age since there wasn't anything to watch on television.

When I started working at a major defense contractor on submarine-related projects, it took a while for the clearance I needed to come through, so I had a lot of free time sitting at a desk outside the secure area, unable to contribute anything. I asked my boss for some non-classified reading I could do to come up to speed on things. He gave me a number of good recommendations, but the first thing he had me read was _The Hunt for Red October_. :)
