Again, if you're really, really worried about it, the shipbook includes 2D versions of all of the ships. The 2D sheets a pretty neat because they add parts of the play aids to the 2D sheets, so you can track your heading and plot your pivots right on the SSD. Reduces table clutter.

The 2D vector movement is pretty cut and dried. I can hold all of the relevant movement and combat rules in my head with months and months between games of Squadron Strike. The only things I regularly have to look up are the EW rules (used to proxy computer levels for Traveller) and some of the special weapon traits. Making a cheat sheet of weapon traits is a good idea--there aren't that many that apply in any game.

I confess to being worried about the 3D aspects as well.

(But I think there’s supposed to be an app that helps calculate things for you? I think developed last year in a different Kickstarter??)

I’ve played a _Power Projection_ game using Ad Astra minis, and they are both beautiful (high quality) and impressive – especially when the opposing fleets lined up against each other.

I know that SS:T, at present, is only offering cardboard fold-ups (starships as _Cardboard Heroes_! Steve Jackson would be proud!!) rather than, y’know, two _entire fleets in metal_(*) – but I just wanted to let all those who want to try SS:T, you can trust _this_ Ken (i.e. Burnside) to come through with the boxed set.

There some info about how it plays in 3D here (including pretty pics):

(*) Two Fleet Boxes alone are around US$130, plus the rest of the rules, counters, bases, tilt boxes, etc etc… In comparison, _Star Wars: Armada_ has 3 plastic ships (one is a 5” long Imperial Dreadnought) which retails for around AU$130 (US100)??, and presumably sells more and thus has a better economy of scale?
