Looking at various star maps a random mis-jump is very likely to turn into a void-jump resulting the ship arriving in an 'empty hex'.
Well yes, hence the generation ship. Even at near C a 36 parsec misJump is going to be 100 years home. Assuming no stops. Probably further as, if they were on the borders to begin with they might not even want to return to as 'near' as where they misJumped from.
