If there's no wreck, there's most likely going to be a search. If it's during a war, that search may be delayed until the battle's won, the area clear, and some fresh searching assets brought in. Especially for a DN. That's a huge investment to just write off without even attempting to find and rebuild.

Right, but I'm kinda storyboarding this.

The Tigress is jumping because the caps are fully charged, and she's
going to blow if she doesn't...
so they drop the globe and jump.
Right as the ship jumps, the next wave of missiles come in on where
the Tigress _was_, and detonate
(You're going to want the missiles to detonate before hitting the
black globe, so it's the nuke energy hitting it rather than just KE of
the missile)

If the timing was right, and outside observer might have trouble
telling if the Tigress jumped, or exploded.
Especially if the last messages sent during globe flicker were "We're
in trouble, caps at 90%"

If the Navy thinks the Tigress exploded, then there isn't going to be
a search for it.
It'll just be listed as "lost in combat"
