That sounds about right according to the "science of Car Wars", with the motors in the wheels, and a honking big damage sink/power plant in the main body of the car.  Mind you, petrol engined cars had a similar layout too, so make what you will of that.

ISTR that Steve Jackson's Car Wars posited something like that for the cars.
 
Or possibly electric-hydraulic, with the wheels driven by hydraulic flow to minimize unsprung weight, and individual pumps at each wheel. 
 
Or I might be thinking of something else entirely.  :)
