The SS Kepler Horizons injected into a high orbit over Jervens World. The passengers were fairly drooling from the smells coming from the galley kitchen. Chef Hugh Gutekuchen hummed a tune to himself as he stirred a pot simmering on the stove. He had all four ovens in the kitchen going at once.
Captain Ramdell stepped into the galley from the bridge and inquired "what's in the stew pot Cookie?"
Gutekuchen stood to his full one hundred ninety two centimeters and brimming with pride "When we were on Stenmar I spent my discretionary funds on something special.
You may not realize it but today is an ancient Terran holiday marking the winter solstice. There used to be quite a few superstitions surrounding the holiday, something about a team of herbivores pulling a sled while a man dressed in red delivered toys to all the children on Terra while they slept.
But I digress, you asked what's for supper.
I bought a prime piece of rib cage of a Stenmar steer and it has been aging in my cold storage locker for the last two weeks. I've trimmed the excess fat and seasoned the meat and it's been cooking. I just measured its internal temperature and it has almost reached its ideal at fifty five centigrade.
I'll be serving that with an au-jus, horseradish cream and my own recipe sweet sauce.
Sides will include spinach, green beans and baked tubers."
Captain Ramdell thought he was going to faint. The last time Chef made a rib roast it was beyond words good. This was going to be a special meal.
