The Marches were hand-generated, and then tweaked to make them more interesting. You’ll also note there are mistakes, such as the j-5 xboat route in the Lunion Subsector, and a couple of duplicated world names such as Kinorb. Somewhere around I have a pic that Marc sent out a few years ago: a scan of the original, hand-drawn Marches map.
