I know one of the articles published
in either JTAS or when JTAS was incorporated into Challenge
was coding to run through the process in LBB3 on an earlier
Apple computer. At least I think the computer was an Apple.

Unfortunately, I seem to remember where I saw the article.

There’s an article in Challenge, iirc, that talks about this; it was in relation to doing a ‘Hard Times’ revision on existing UWP’s. The author described the program as a ‘random number generator with it’s needle stuck in a groove’. I have it at home in my paper stuff, I think, if you really want to know.

I vaguely recall reading somewhere that the original FS data was generated by a program on an Apple II. I do know from my own explorations of Applebasic and random numbers that there was a certain periodicity to the rand() function. This was a long time ago though.

If you ever really want to explore this stuff I have the original Genie sector data and the T4 sector data available in an sql database format suitable for importation into mysql, for example.
