Very interesting question; I'm working a Zho-Human "mind games" Olympiad into an upcoming adventure. Pre-5FW as sort of a detente/good will gesture like US-China ping-pong in the '70s. The Zho have been told NOT to use their psi powers and to forfeit if they accidentally do. Humans, somewhat as a challenge akin to not wearing parachutes during WWI, have the option NOT to wear psi shield helmets. Mind games are abstract strategy games (no dice involved) like checkers, chess, poker, cribbage, etc. For my campaign (set in a military academy) the matches will be very simply decided with dice rolls vs INT/EDU with task difficulty DMs.
As the zho-human games are less important than the peer status one gains within the brigade of midshipmen for volunteering to play (risking psi!) and possibly winning (in this case, losing still increases status if you dare not to wear the psi shield. Human winners are then secretly approached by the Academy leadership to undergo voluntary psi assessment (and possible training), but mids have to be care not to be caught taking such assessments or their peer status will crater.
