As suggested, I've started writing summaries of the various 'Faraway' sectors and subsectors that have resulted from my project to transcribe as many of the surviving sectors/subsectors contained in fanzines and early gaming magazines as possible for the Traveller Map. This one covers Rigel Subsector (Subsector D of Rigel Sector), it was created by Douglas Webb and was printed in Queskania, Issue Three, a gaming magazine dating from the 1980s, with the presence of a planet called Hoth in the subsector suggesting a date close to that of the release of 'The Empire Strikes Back'.

Created without the use of standard Traveller forms the subsector was the setting for a Traveller campaign in a custom setting. From information published in Queskania, Issue Six, the campaign had reached the level of 'Trillion Credit Squadron' style space combat by the time the players had lost interest.

The issue three data describes the situation at campaign start, the major players are the planets Druwaith, Rigel and The Skania Pact. Rigel and Druwaith had fought a war in the recent past which had ended in a victory for Druwaith. Antares was a major power, but has been crippled by revolts in it's subject systems.

The Skania Pact is a recent alliance of worlds in the Rimward part of the subsector formed specifically to check the power of Druwaith.

As a conflict filled setting there are lots of opportunity for Mercenary tickets or intrigue based campaigning. If used in the standard Traveller setting, it's probably best located well away from the Third Imperium.

When I transcribed it, the major issues were a non-standard UWP format and the fact that the author was not making use of standard Traveller forms when creating the subsector map.

Under normal circumstances with a subsector like this, published without any clues as to the names of surrounding subsectors, it would be placed in Subsector 'A' of it's sector. However in this case, while testing the transcriptions output in Traveller Map's poster generator I realized that Trailing edge of the subsector seemed to be a good match for the main's that led off to Spinward from Precipice Subsector (Which will be the subject of the next writeup). Testing of a 'merge' file containing both subsectors showed this supposition to be correct and so the created Sector has the transcribed subsector placed in Subsector 'D'.
