I've been going through my copy of the files on the HIWG CD; I've
discovered the following:
In GDW-BETA:
The files in the subfolders are email archives, but I don't know what
program created them. Nevertheless, they're "clean" enough that you can
read them using _more_.
beta.940105 and similar appear at regular intervals in the text files. I believe that is list or folder name and a date (5th of January, 1994).
Within the data, the actual messages are pretty clear and if I pulled it into a binary editor, I could likely figure out the formatting (seems pretty obvious).
It should be possible to transform this into either an XML format or a simple text file with dates, removing the binary cruftiness. I am sure this was a dump of some sort of mail folders, but I'm not sure from what software.
Is it worth having this in some alternative format as text without the junk and with dates?
I'm not sure how hard it would then be to import to a mailbox client or to setup display for as an online archive (if one had permission).
The GDW-BETA stuff has (just from my perusal) a bunch of FF&S errata/explanation discussions. For folks like Mr. Rux (or anyone that wants to understand build systems in Traveller), that might be of interest.
