Just remember you broke out the songs...
If you know sea shanties, then you've maybe heard of Barrett's Privateers by the amazing (and sadly missed) Stan Rogers. These lyrics are a slight twist on Stan's amazing home-made sea shanty (he wanted one he could sing lead in, so he wrote his own...).
This is my recreated (I have another version somewhere) version of that song rendered into 'The Amazing Years To Come' (bonus points for that reference)....
I give you.... Miller's Privateers!
[Verse 1]
Oh, the year was 778.
How I wish I was in Boughene now!
A letter of marque came from the Duke
To the scummiest vessel I've ever seen
God damn them all!
I was told we'd cruise the stars for Zhodani Lan-tha-num...
We'd fire no guns, shed no tears.
But I'm a broken man on a Rhylanor pier,
The last of Miller's Privateers!
[Verse 2]
Oh, Old Man Miller cried the town.
How I wish I was in Boughene now!
For six brave men all spacers who
Would make for him the Beowulf's crew.
God damn them all!
I was told we'd cruise the stars for Zhodani Lan-tha-num...
We'd fire no guns, shed no tears.
But I'm a broken man on a Rhylanor pier,
The last of Miller's Privateers!
[Verse 3]
The Beowulf trader was a sickening sight!
How I wish I was in Boughene now!
She'd a list to the port, her thrusters were slag,
And the steward in the scuppers with bad jump lag,
God damn them all!
I was told we'd cruise the stars for Zhodani Lan-tha-num...
We'd fire no guns, shed no tears.
But I'm a broken man on a Rhylanor pier,
The last of Miller's Privateers!
[Verse 4]
On the Emperor's birthday we put to space.
How I wish I was in Boughene now!
We were 91 days to Extolay,
Jumping like madmen all the way!
God damn them all!
I was told we'd cruise the stars for Zhodani Lan-tha-num...
We'd fire no guns, shed no tears.
But I'm a broken man on a Rhylanor pier,
The last of Miller's Privateers!
[Verse 5]
On the 96th day we spaced again.
How I wish I was in Boughene now!
When a bloody great Zhodani hove in sight...
With our cracked pulse laser we made to fight!
God damn them all!
I was told we'd cruise the stars for Zhodani Lan-tha-num...
We'd fire no guns, shed no tears.
But I'm a broken man on a Rhylanor pier,
The last of Miller's Privateers!
[Verse 6]
Now the Zho was packed with Lan-tha-num...
How I wish I was in Boughene now!
She was broad and fat and had loose sensor arrays,
But to catch her took the Beowulf two whole days!
God damn them all!
I was told we'd cruise the stars for Zhodani Lan-tha-num...
We'd fire no guns, shed no tears.
But I'm a broken man on a Rhylanor pier,
The last of Miller's Privateers!
[Verse 7]
Then at length we stood two diameters away.
How I wish I was in Boughene now!
Our cracked pulse laser made an awful din,
But with one missile, the Zho stove us in!
God damn them all!
I was told we'd cruise the stars for Zhodani Lan-tha-num...
We'd fire no guns, shed no tears.
But I'm a broken man on a Rhylanor pier,
The last of Miller's Privateers!
[Verse 8]
The Beowulf shook and pitched on her side...
How I wish I was in Boughene now!
Miller was smashed like a bowl of eggs
And the Main Drive carried off both me legs!
God damn them all!
I was told we'd cruise the stars for Zhodani Lan-tha-num...
We'd fire no guns, shed no tears.
But I'm a broken man on a Rhylanor pier,
The last of Miller's Privateers!
[Verse 9]
So here I lay in my 23rd year...
(out a early due to failed survival roll!)
How I wish I was in Boughene now!
It's been 6 years since we spaced away
And I just made Rhylanor yesterday!
God damn them all!
I was told we'd cruise the stars for Zhodani Lan-tha-num...
We'd fire no guns, shed no tears.
But I'm a broken man on a Rhylanor pier,
The last of Miller's Privateers!
I was told we'd cruise the stars for Zhodani Lan-tha-num...
We'd fire no guns, shed no tears.
But I'm a broken man on a Rhylanor pier,
THE LAST OF MILLER'S PRIVATEERS!
