Many thanks Jeff. Much though I don't love the lack of f2f, given the present circumstances, it looks as if we might have to give it a go. I'll be polling players as to interest this morning.
Assuming they're up for it, I've been hearing people mention Roll20 and Discord so I thought I might look into them - although I suspect they'll be overpowered for what we need. And I'm not really keen to learn more software. I'm happy to let players roll their own dice and can hopefully 'share' handouts via email if need be! I think my key thing would be being able to see everyone and a good 'connection'; sharing Word/images would be nice.

I’ll just add to this that Zoom is head and shoulders better than all the rest of those in terms of ease of use.
And thank you Bruce for the tips. Yes, have been using Zoom for a weekly family meeting and although I've just had to join rather than set it up, it does seem to have been simple. 40 minute limit though unless I pay. Although presumably we could just start up another one immediately after? Drinks break!
We just had to move all classes on our campus online in a matter of a week, and if we’d needed to use other VC tools it would have been a catastrophe, IMO.
Now work gives me access to WebEx which I've been using for virtual team meetings and also for a couple of lectures I had to deliver. I even managed to share powerpoint and web pages with the students. So I'm thinking that would be perfect. I'm assuming I can invite non university people to join in, I'll have to do a test.
Just remember one thing: Make your meetings private lest your gaming session unexpectedly turns into Chatroulette.
Ah. Ok. Good tip, I didn't know they were 'open'. No one has yet gatecrashed a work meeting, a teaching session or a family get together (using WebEx, WebEx and Zoom respectively). But we did have a muslim drop into our church's night prayers which are twice a week via Facebook to tell us that we should read the Quran and see that Jesus isn't the son of God. <sigh> TBF the Facebook streams are open and he only posted the one message and then vanished. We didn't engage (it tends to be a one way thing from vicar/curates in any case rather than lots of chat).
I have played Traveller once via some kind of virtual thing - I should have taken notes as to what. It was a while back and the referee did a great job - but as I say, I didn't love the 'distance'. Death Station I think it was - a good old classic and I did love the way the deck plans could be 'revealed' as we went.
I'll keep you posted on whether we do or not and how it goes if we do.
(It does occur to me that IF my players were up for it and I'm not sure they would be, we could have, say, one guest slot for anyone who fancied a British Summer Team evening session of The Traveller Adventure(ish)! I'll poll them on that too.)
